Certified Medication Technician (CMT) Training
The Certified Medication Technician (CMT) training program prepares individuals for employment as a CMT in an intermediate care or skilled care nursing facility.
The program is designed to teach skills in administration of non-parenteral medications that will qualify students to perform this procedure to assist licensed practical nurses or registered professional nurses in medication therapy.
This eight-week program consists of at least 60 classroom hours of instruction and a minimum of 8-hours of clinical practice under the direct supervision of an instructor. Instruction includes: basic review of body systems and medication effect on each system; medical terminology; infection control; and medication classifications. * 8 hour practicum to be arranged by the instructor.
Students must successfully complete a final written examination and a minimum two-hour final practicum exam before a certificate can be issued. Upon successful completion of the program and testing, students' names will be placed on the Missouri State Certified Medication Technician (CMT) Registry.
COST OF THE PROGRAM
There are no costs to the individual upon successfully qualifying for financial assistance. All instructional materials for this training will be provided through funding sources.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years or older
- Be employed as a CNA for a minimum of six months and provide a copy of certificate or card.
- A copy of high school diploma, high school transcript or GED must be provided. Foreign diplomas must be translated into English and verified through ECE (414-289-3400).
- A letter of recommendation (on letterhead) from current DON or administrator stating they are recommending the employee enroll in the CMT training.
- Applicants must be registered on the Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) and have a clear background check through the FCSR in order to be considered for application into the CMT Program.
- Negative TUBERCULIN TEST: PPD

Step 3 – Complete requirements below and submit to STL Training 2 weeks prior to training start date.
